Some facts:
The most common of all causes (95%) for hair loss in men is known as androgenetic alopecia or MALE PATTERN BALDNESS.
MALE PATTERN BALDNESS is generally caused by hormonal changes and hereditary factors.
The genes for MALE PATTERN BALDNESS can be inherited from mom or dad.
If your mother's father has MALE PATTERN BALDNESS, there's a chance you will have MALE PATTERN BALDNESS.
Men with MALE PATTERN BALDNESS commonly experience hair loss beginning in the front through the crown in a horseshoe pattern leaving only the hair on the sides and back of head.
Approximately 40% of American males will experience MALE PATTERN BALDNESS by age 35.
Other Possible Causes for Hair loss:
- High fever, severe infection, severe flu
- Thyroid disease
- Deficient diet - protein or iron deficiency
- Certain Medications - (ex: blood thinners, high dose Vit A)
- Chemotherapy or radiation- for cancer treatment
- Alopecia Areata- patchy hair loss possibly autoimmune related
- Alopecia Totalis - more severe, with hair loss on entire body
- Chronic Stress
- Traction Alopecia- from hair pulling (trichotillomania)
- Mechanical damage - from styling options (extensions, permanent
attachments)
